It’s a Wrap for Blogher 2006
Vlogging Ways
I went to the video blogging seminar and met Ryanne Hodson and Zadi Diaz. I’d have to say the videoblogging portions was the highlight of Blogher for me. I was so impressed by the passion and openess of the vlogging community, (probably because the community of vloggers are still small but growing).
Here’s a video I made of scenes from Blogher (mainly the first day, because my camera crapped out…ah technology)… Renee Blodgett so kindly struck a pose for me (as with many other folks), but it’s worth checking out in the context of video (this links to blip.tv, I couldn’t embed it =( ), with music provided by iTunes =)!
Podcasting Days
When I interviewed Zadi in the podcast she said “media literacy is just as important as reading and writing”. This was interesting as I mulled over what made media literacy so special; this is what I came up with:
- Unlike traditional literacy and computer literacy, consuming the medium does not mean you can produce it (e.g. if you can read, you can write)
- Number of consumers far outweighs the producers (Broadcast now)
- Such skewed ratios of producers to consumers will bring about a *mystification* and us vs. them dichotomy
Anyone have anymore?
To stretch my media literacy, I put together a podcast from Blogher for AOL. I chatted with:
There’s so much more I’d write, but I learned, who likes long posts anyways????

Hey awesome video! One of the best conferences I’ve been to in a long time.
Keep on making video. You’re a natural. Plus, your site is super funky fresh.

[…] A great delight was meeting 4 teenage students from around the Bay Area that ran a podcast show called Smashcast. Their focus is teens in science and technology. It was great that these students were taking initiative and becoming “media literate”, which I’ll talk about that in a later post =). I think I must be getting old, because I was fascinated with how it is different growing up with the Internet integrated into a teenager’s life. Can anyone say “myspace”? I was able to ask the teens some questions mainly about Smashcast, and will update this post when the podcast gets edited. Updated. This only contains the podcast with smashcast, to get the whole podcast, go to this post: […]

[…] Holly has a sweet (the way Ben says it, not the way my mom used to say it) video of BlogHer. It’s about a minute long. […]
