Bitacle a Biter?
When I was growing up we used to call someone who copied someone else a “biter” (See Urban Dictionary). I came across this website called Bitacle. I found it strangely remniscent of something else. Even the logo is taken from the Web2.0 Logo Creator and a module called BiteMe (which I still have no idea what it is):
I looked at the footer and what the clincher is, is that this product is under the Creative Commons License. Bitacle was created in 2006 in Spain, while Netvibes was created in 2005 in Paris. Both have their product in French and Spanish. Perhaps this is a test of adoption of technology under a Creative Commons License vs. other types of licenses. But one must question, if the Netvibes code was stolen to even create this Bitacle site then I think there is a legal problem (at least in Litigious Land of the U.S.). Anyways, I’ll stop talking about liscensing since I am *so not* an expert. Anyone with more expert thoughts on CC Licensing and this I’d love to hear them!
Update: My buddy Wayne pointed me to some other possible biters — Eskobo , Favoor

U got the same problem of my blog. Simply Bitacle.
I resolved it with a .htaccess rule:
# STOP BITACLE!
RewriteEngine On
deny from 212.22.59.251
deny from bitacle.org

[…] Naturally, the idea of scooping someone’s original creation without permission and not attributing it to it’s creator would have been a breach of copywrite law and ethics and I knew that. But apparently the folks at Bitacle, a combination search engine and feed aggregator outfit operating out of Spain, could care less about ethics, protocol or copywrite. The person behind Bitacle is apparently a guy named Jseusu Angelo Glez and the site similarity to the NetVibes has not gone unnoticed. […]
